About Total Home Hero

Hey neighbors! I’m Jim Fons, owner of Total Home Hero WI — your multi-trade home specialist right here in Central Wisconsin.

I grew up on a farm in rural Wisconsin, where I was always tinkering and fixing things. By my teens I was MacGyvering solutions out of whatever I had on hand — and decades later, not much has changed except refining my skill. After a long career in corporate sales and customer service with Fortune 500 companies, I’m finally doing what I’ve always loved: fixing things for other people.

I specialize in the work that falls between what a typical handyman can handle and what a general contractor will take on. If your project crosses a few different skill areas — some carpentry, a fixture replacement, some drywall, a little finish work — I handle the whole thing in one visit instead of you coordinating three different contractors.

I hold a Wisconsin dwelling contractor license, lead abatement certification, and carry full liability insurance. I’m a husband, dad of three, and proud grandpa of four, and I bring the same professionalism and integrity I used with Fortune 500 clients straight to your front door.

I treat every home the way I’d treat my own. Every job comes with my personal satisfaction guarantee.

Serving Marathon County, Lincoln County, and surrounding Central Wisconsin. Let’s get those projects off your to-do list.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about our services

We specialize in projects that combine several types of skill in a single visit. If your project involves some carpentry, a fixture replacement, some finish work, and maybe some drywall, we handle it all at once instead of you coordinating multiple contractors. We also handle standard repairs and maintenance including door installation, window repair, painting, trim work, tile and grout, deck repairs, cabinet work, shelving, furniture assembly, and accessibility upgrades.

We offer set pricing on many standard services like fixture replacements, door installs, drywall patches, and more. You can view pricing and book directly through our online scheduling. For larger projects that involve multiple types of work, we provide free on-site estimates. Either way, you know the cost before any work begins.

Yes! We serve all of Marathon County and Lincoln County including Wausau, Weston, Edgar, Marathon City, Merrill, Rothschild, Schofield, Mosinee, Kronenwetter, and surrounding Central Wisconsin communities. Not sure if we cover your area? Just call us at (715) 661-6447.

Jim holds a Wisconsin dwelling contractor license, is lead abatement certified, and brings decades of professional service experience. We take on the mid-range projects that most handymen cannot legally or technically do, and that most general contractors won’t take because the job is too small for their operation. You get one licensed professional handling your entire project.

Yes. Total Home Hero WI holds a Wisconsin Dwelling Contractor license (3821-DCFR), Qualifier certification (3996-DCQ), and lead abatement certification (DHS 2883900). We carry full general liability insurance and are Checkr background check verified.

Yes. We handle common fixture-level work like replacing faucets, toilets, light fixtures, and switches. For anything beyond that, such as new plumbing lines or electrical panel work, we would refer you to a licensed specialist. We can often coordinate that referral as part of a larger project.

Absolutely. We specialize in home accessibility improvements including grab bar installation, handrail repairs, threshold ramps, non-slip flooring, and other modifications that help seniors and individuals with mobility challenges stay safe and comfortable at home.

Yes. Jim is lead abatement certified and trained in EPA RRP, OSHA, and Wisconsin DHS 163 lead-safe work practices. We handle lead paint testing, abatement, and renovation in pre-1978 homes. This is licensed, regulated work that most service providers are not certified to perform.

Yes — every job comes with Jim’s personal satisfaction guarantee. If you’re not happy with the work, we’ll make it right. That’s the Total Home Hero promise.
